Primitivo del Salento Classica IGT, Cantele

Happy New Year to everyone!  I hope the new year's festivities haven't turned you off wine, because we have a review of a good value red from peanutman to start off the year.

— Peanutman’s Review —

I've discovered in 2009 two different types of grapes that I really like, one being the Petit Verdot and the other the Primitivo. I'd rate this one the same as the Farnese (which is no longer available), but I would say this one was a little better. It had a spicy, flowery and cherry smell. It was an easy drinking wine, with a little spiciness to it and just enough tannins not to be overpowering. Nice wine to drink by itself.

Price $15.49
Value: 4.5/5
Score: 88

  1. Thanks for the review- I love Primitivos- I will have to pick one up. I had the Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria 2001 over the Xmas holidays that I bought in NS a few years back and this grape dosen't age well.

  2. Hi! Thank you so much for your kind review! I'm really happy you like our Primitivo. If you have the chance to find the Negroamaro Salice Salentino D.O.C., try it. Negroamaro is another tipical grape from Salento (Puglia).
    Ciao!

  3. HI...your scoring is right on as both Wine & Spirits Mag and eRobertParker both gave it 88 points as well. The Negroamaro that Paolo is referring to will be at this year's 2010 Wine Expo.
