Sandhill Petit Verdot 2006
I was a bit disappointed by the Sandhill Viognier, not because it's a bad wine, but because Sandhill sets a high standard. This Petit Verdot lives up to that standard. It is inky and long, with rich dark fruit caressing the tongue. It's beautifully structured - enough tannin to give it backbone, but soft at the same time. Maybe not subtle - at least not yet - but impossible not to fall for. But if you're going to try it, you should hurry. This wine is part of Sandhill's Small Lots program - only 233 cases made, and fewer than four are left in the province. The Sandhill release appeared on the shelves only a couple of weeks ago, and the Petit Verdot is already sold out in F'ton. The only reason I'm willing to post this comment is that I've already ordered in a half dozen from out of town for my cellar.

Finca Antigua Petit Verdot 2006
Peanutman posted this in the Make a Suggestion thread, but I think it deserves a separate post, even though it’s no longer in stock. As it happens, Kelly and I just had an excellent Australian Petit Verdot last night, though not the one that is currently available at ANBL. This seems to be a grape worth looking out for. Anyone else had a Petit Verdot recently? Anyone have more comments on the de Bortoli Vat 4 that ANBL carries?

Just wondering if anyone bought the Finca Antigua Petit Verdot 2006 at the Wine Festival. I had my first bottle tonight. Too bad NBLC doesn't have any in stock. Wow. what a good wine. Very blackberry ish and smooth to boot. A little tannic but not much. Probably perfect time to drink it. I don't remember what I paid, probably around $20. Smell is simply beautifully fruity, like something you would want to have on your toast in the morning. I would give it a 4.5 out of 5 and I would say that it was better than the Australian Petit Verdot available at NBLC. Simply enjoyable.
Value 4.5/5
UPC: No longer available.

De Bortoli Deen Vat 4 Petit Verdot 2006
I was quite interested when Iron Chef sent me this review, as I've had my eye on this wine for a while,
but just haven't gotten around to trying it.
--- Iron Chef's Review ---
Colour- Redish Purple, Great Colour.
Nose- Plummy, Vanilla oak, Lavender ??, Dusty Gravel notes. Smells great.
Taste- less than ripe cherries, Aussie Mist Shampoo (coconut) & bananas, a bit candied but not overblown. Surprisingly acidic, fine tannins- some apple crispness- a real backbone to the wine. Smooth Fruit forward wine.
Typical Aussie but something different, not austere, not completely candied overall complex. Of all the PVerdots I have had, it has always the acidity or crispness of the palate and the structure of the wine that sets it apart from the normal. As a primarily blending grape to add structure to a Bordeaux or meritage blend, I am always happy to try it by itself.
Price: $20.49
Score: 88
Value: 3.9/5
Region: Australia- Riverina
Alcohol 14.5%
Grape: Petit Verdot
Tasted: March 2009
